An innovative, new destination for medical care and wellness on Jacksonville’s Northside

A new YMCA facility is integrated within the Baptist North Medical Campus,  part of a full spectrum of healthy living resources

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Feb. 27, 2017 – The second phase of Baptist North Medical Campus is now open, featuring a three-story building encircled by a walking trail and housing a new YMCA, Y Healthy Living Center, and physician offices. This new building is the second to be built on the new Baptist North Medical Campus, situated on 40 acres of land at the intersection of I-295 and Dunn Avenue in a fast-growing area of Jacksonville’s Northside.

Unlike most medical office buildings, the new “medical wellness building” now open at Baptist North promotes health and integrates wellness concepts as part of the building design. For example, guests entering the building may choose to take the stairs rather than the elevator when they see the stairs are encased in glass and feature a ceiling-to-floor photo mural of a North Florida oak hammock, bringing the outdoors in. Local and regional artists’ work also will be featured throughout the building.

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the Baptist North expansion is that it is home to the newest YMCA, providing convenient access to fitness and wellness programs for adults and families in North Jacksonville. People of all ages will enjoy state-of-the-art cardio and strength equipment, group exercise studios, KidZone, personal training with certified staff, nutrition consultations, youth sports, and more as the new Y officially opened Saturday, Feb. 25.

“The Y is dedicated to helping all community members live their healthiest lives. This commitment led to our partnership with Baptist Health,” said YMCA of Florida’s First Coast President and CEO Eric Mann. “Our job will not be done until we bring health equity to each neighborhood we serve through integrated programs and facilities such as the Healthy Living Centers and the new YMCA at Baptist North.”

Also included in the campus:

  • A new Baptist/Y Healthy Living Center, open five days a week and staffed with a wellness coach from Baptist Health. In this dedicated space on the first floor of the medical wellness building, the public is invited to take advantage of health screenings, wellness coaching, Talks With A Doc and more. Residents do not need to be a member of the Y to take advantage of these programs and services, offered to the community at no or low cost.
  • The top two floors will house a variety of primary care and specialist physicians, including cardiology, which will move into their new offices between March and June.
  • A full-service Baptist/Wolfson Children’s Emergency Center, staffed 24/7, with separate teams for adults and children.
  • Onsite diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray) and laboratory services inside the Emergency Center provide a convenient location for any patient with a doctor’s order. Walk-ins or appointments for these services are welcome.

In addition to taking care of medical emergencies on this campus, it is an essential part of our mission to promote the health of the community,” said A. Hugh Greene, CEO, Baptist Health. “We are pleased to be opening another phase of our campus to expand our ongoing commitment to the Northside community.”
